Potential diagnostic value of pleural fluid cytokines levels for tuberculous pleural effusion

چکیده
Abstract Patients with tuberculous pleural effusion (TPE) or malignant effusions (MPE) frequently have similar fluid profiles. New biomarkers for the differential diagnosis of TPE are required. We determined whether cytokine profiles in PE patients could aid TPE. 30 TPE, MPE, 14 empyema (EMP) and parapneumonic (PPE) were enrolled between Dec 2018 2019. The levels interleukin (IL)-6, IL-18, IL-27, CXCL8, CCL-1 IP-10 by ELISA along measurements adenosine deaminase (ADA). best predictors combined ADA.IL-27 [optimal cut-off value = 42.68 (10 3 U ng/l 2 ), sensitivity 100%, specificity 98.28%], ADA [cut off 27.5 (IU/l), 90%, 96.5%] IL-27 [cut-off 2363 (pg/ml), 96.7%, 98.3%, p ? 0.0001]. A high level IL-6 3260 67.2%], CXCL8 144.5 93.3%, 58.6%], CCL1 54 70.7%] 891.9 83.3%, 48.3%] also predictive High ADA.IL-27, differentiate non-TPE improved diagnostic accuracy may be useful clinically.

Potential diagnostic value of serum/pleural fluid IL-31 levels for tuberculous pleural effusion.
The aim of this study was to explore the diagnostic value of IL-31 levels in the pleural fluid and plasma to differentially diagnose tuberculous and malignant pleural effusion. We enrolled 91 cases, including tuberculous pleural effusion (TPE, n = 50), malignant pleural effusion (MPE, n = 41), other cases including pneumonia with pleural fluid, pulmonary tuberculosis and healthy people as contr...
متن کاملContralateral pleural effusion during chemotherapy for tuberculous pleural effusion.
A 25 year old woman developed a right pleural effusion 6 weeks after commencement of short course chemotherapy for left sided tuberculous pleural effusion. Since the patient improved following continuation of the same treatment, it is presumed to be a case of paradoxical response to anti-tuberculosis treatment.
متن کاملTuberculous pleural effusion.
Tuberculous pleural effusion occurs in approximately 5% of patients with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB) infection1 and accounts for 4% of all TB cases in the United States.2 Diagnosis is challenging, with 48–96% of tuberculous pleural effusions negative by sputum acid-fast bacilli (AFB) stain and culture. Thoracentesis is frequently performed and shows an exudative, lymphocytic pleural effusio...
متن کاملA case of tuberculous pleural effusion with low pleural fluid adenosine deaminase levels
Traditionally, Mycobacterium tuberculosis or granulomas have to be evidenced in the pleural cavity in order to establish a diagnosis of tuberculous pleuritis. In recent years, adenosine deaminase has aided tremendously in the diagnosis of tuberculous pleural effusion, often obviating the need for microbiologic or histologic verification of the diagnosis. However, the fact that the sensitivity o...

UNLABELLED The diagnostic value of tumor markers in pleural fluid is still the subject of debate. The aim of this work was to evaluate diagnostic value of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) in pleural fluid for differentiating malignant from non malign pleural effusion, and their additive value to cytological examination. DESIGN Prospective, case control study. SETTING Tertiary University hospi...
